Origin :
The tradition of "Indian Miniature Painting" can be traced from the 9th-10th century in the Buddhist Pala period palm-leaf manuscript of Eastern India and Western India in the Jaina palm-leaf manuscript.
The succeeding Mughal Emperor, Akbar built an atelier for the artists to promote the rich art form. These artists on their part trained Indian artists who produced paintings in a new distinctive style depicting Hindu literature, music, poetry, and folk art.
Rajasthani Miniature :
These miniatures are famous mainly for their bright, glowing colors and powerful lines. Rajasthani school is a pure form of Indian Art.
Technique :
The paintings were and are drawn using very fine bristle wooden brushes and natural colors.
The paintings are to be made using many delicate strokes. Artists create very detailed work and often use fine stipples and hatches.
Colors :
The colors used by the miniature artists are made from minerals, vegetables, semi-precious and precious stones, indigo, conch shells (pure gold and silver in the olden days). The preparing and mixing of colors is an elaborate process and it takes weeks and sometimes months to get the desired results.
